We're Back!

The 2013-2014 school year has gotten off to a great start!  We just finished our first quarter, and we started this year's reading program in October.  We've "borrowed" the name of this year's reading program from Dr. Seuss:

BE AWESOME!  BE A BOOK NUT!

You'll be seeing some more paragraphs, drawings, and other creativity from our students as the year goes on.  Please feel free to comment on any blog post--the kids love to know you're reading these!

Monster Trucks and Cool Cars

Monster Trucks and Cool Cars, by Tori Kosara

I read Monster Trucks and Cool Cars by Tori Kosara  It has 63 pages.  Monster trucks look like big pick-up trucks.  They can weigh up to 33,000 pounds.  Backwards Bob is a monster truck with the body put on backwards.  Some cool cars are small and very fast.  The Porsche Boxer is a sport car with a top that folds down.  The Ferrari Enzo is very fast in races.  I like this book.  Other boys might like this book too.  It teaches about trucks and cars.

P.S. I Really Like You

How I Survived Middle School: P.S. I Really Like You, by Nancy E. Krulik
Published by Scholastic in 2008

The main characters in the story were Rachel and Felicia.  The setting took place at the school.  The theme of the story was about a secret admirer.  This story is about when this secret admirer wrote a note into one of the girl's lockers.  All of the girls think it was Marc who wrote the note.  Rachel thought that Felicia was on Addie's side and Rachel stopped being Felicia's friend.  I thought this story was very great and amazing.

This book was about friends who were not friends.  Their parents wanted them to be mean and bossy.  The characters were Addie, Dana, Felicia, Chloe, Claire, Mare, and Jenny.  The setting was at school.  The genre was a book about a girl.  I thought this book was amazing.  It had all the details in it too.  I hope I read this book again.

John Elway: Comeback Kid

John Elway: Comeback Kid, Illustrated by Doug Keith

John Elway was an NFL football player.  He played quarterback for the Denver Broncos.  He never won the Super Bowl but he never gave up.  My favorite part of the book is when Elway says a winner is somebody who can come back from defeat.  Even if you do not win,  you still keep trying.

I really like this book because it was drama.  It taught me lessons for when I get in middle school.  I got in the same adventures.  The characters were Jenny, Addie, Chloe, Ms. Jaffe, Felicia, Ddana, and Marc.  Jenny received loved notes.  Addie gets jealous.

This book is about Christmas.  The mouse will get crazy about it.  He will get some paper and some glue to make a tree for Christmas.  He will make some ornaments with glitter.

The story is cool.  The book tells interesting things.  The story has things I don't understand.  The story is fantasy and it's weird to make your sister disappear.  The characters are Dakto, Spring, Mom, and Dad.  The setting is mostly at home.  The theme is a girl trying to make her sister disappear.  The book is funny, silly, and creative!  I really liked this book.

This book is very educational.  It teaches you about galaxies.  The author is amazing at writing books.  The book is an awesome book.  In this book, I saw Ancient Greece.  There is a Milky Way galaxy.  There is a satellite somewhere in space.  People use telescopes to look in space.  The theme was galaxies and space.  I thought the book was great.

The mian character is Cornelius O'Donald O'Dell.  The setting mostly takes place outside and inside.  The genre is a picture book.  The book is about a zebra that is beyond the letter Z.  The other part is about a boy who wants to learn every animal in the alphabet.  I thought the book was fun to read.

You have to come the mouse's hair and you have to put the clothes on.  Then he will want a lunch.  He knows how to do science and math.  He knows how to build a house of blocks.  He likes to draw.  This book was nice, cool, crazy, and funny.

The theme is mysteries.  I love the book.  My favorite part is when the boy is a giant.  I like where he scared people.  I like the end and he turned into a little boy.

She was a beautiful girl named "Greta."  She lived with her dad because her mom died long ago.  Her father was a kind man.  One day Greta's father was heading to the city.  In two more days he brought a surprise.  It was a lady.  They got married the same day in a cold hard church.  The lady had two children (Bad Children!) Elvira, and Ermintrude.  Elvira was wicked.  Ermintrude was very, very dim. Elvira and Ermintrude took all of Greta's jewels, and left Greta with only one simply frock.  Greta was forced to sleep in the kitchen.  I feel really sad that the lady that her dad had married was taking over her house.

Meet Samantha

The book is good.  I like how Samantha meets a friend and they become BFF's.  I like that Samantha wants to be her and she wants to earn money to buy a doll.  Samantha is a good friend to Nellie and always sticks together.  I like five characters from the story. There is Samantha, Nellie, Uncle Gard, Cornelia, and Grandmary.
